Social Skills

Williamstown North Primary School places a great importance on teaching our students 'Social Skills', to support their emotional and social development.

We want all students to develop positive ways to interact with each other and form healthy relationships.

These skills and associated behaviours are closely linked and aligned to our School Values and You Can Do It! Keys.

They are discussed in Assembly and within classrooms and Specialist classes.  These behaviours and skills are important to be taught at an early age and then reinforced with all children, teenagers and even adults.

The more we talk about and discuss these, the more they become an automatic response and behaviour.

One focus is - Being able to cooperate when a group doesn't agree.

Focus

  • Staying calm and using a calm voice.
  • Letting everyone share their opinions.
  • Listening to everyone before making a decision.
  • Telling others your ideas and how they are feeling.
  • Trying to find a way to solve the problem by saying things like: Let's try..., How about..., We could..., What if we...
  • Understanding that someone elses idea may be used.
  • Friendships
  • Develop behavioural strategies for the classroom and playground
